WALMART HELPS OUR CUSTOMERS, ASSOCIATES, AND OTHERS ACROSS LONG ISLAND LIVE HEALTHIER LIVES
At Walmart, we have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of millions of people every day. That's particularly true when it comes to helping our customers, our associates and the people in our surrounding communities live healthier lives.

Our Customers

On Long Island, and elsewhere, too many people are struggling with the costs of health care. To help ease the strain, we are using the strengths of our business to drive costs out of health care and bring our customers the lowest prices on the products and services they need to stay healthy. One example is our $4 prescription drug plan that has now saved Americans more than $2 billion since its launch in September 2006. Here in New York, that savings amounts to more than $48 million over the same time frame. To learn more about this program and the prescriptions covered, click here.

Our Associates

As an employer, providing our associates and their families with health care coverage is a priority for Walmart. We are continually working to expand affordable access to care for our Walmart and Sam's Club associates and their families. Both full and part-time Wal-Mart associates can become eligible for health coverage. Full-time associates can become eligible after six months, and part-time associates after 12 months. Minor children of Walmart associates - both full- and part-time - are eligible for health benefits as soon as the parent is eligible. According to a survey taken during our fall 2007 open enrollment period, more than 92 percent of Walmart associates reported having some form of health coverage; and more than 50 percent of Walmart associates obtain their health coverage through the company. Our Neighbors

Finally, we see an opportunity to impact not only our customers and our associates but also to advocate for broader change. That's why we've joined together with leaders in government, business and labor to call for reform in the American health care system, and why we are working closely with other business leaders and academics to advance health information technology. By combining the strengths of many, we can improve the quality of care available to all Americans. For more information, click here.
